A Truly Sad Time for Me: the Loss of My Cat

On Saturday, 27.Sep.2008 I was in a serious automobile accident in Huntsville Texas.

While headed south on I-45 from Dallas to Houston, another car lost control and cut across my path. We both ended up leaving the interstate and I rolled my car. My car is totalled.

We were lucky. I walked away and my passenger, my uncle, did too.

But I am devastated because I lost my cat, Spot. She was frightened and ran off in the confusion. She was seen alive and well after the accident but is now lost. And it truly breaks my heart.

She may be hurt, is certainly very afraid and will be hungry. She is completely declawed and completely black and is an indoor cat with  no idea how to feed herself in the wild. She is not yet microchipped.

You can see the location here http://snipr.com/jshlostcathere and get my “poster” here http://JSH.us/spot2.

I have contacted all the local property owners.

I am offering a REWARD because my heart is broken.

I am not particularly hopeful but if you know anyone in the Huntsville Texas area would you please let them know.

I am offering a reward.

Thank you so much.

    James;

So sorry to hear this. Loss of a friend like this is so sad. It’s the not-knowing that can eat you up. It looks like a populated area so Spot has a good chance of being found and cared for.

Oh James, my heart goes out to you. Thank goodness you and your uncle were not seriously hurt in the accident.

I can only imagine how devistated you are having lost Spot. I have four cats, all declawed and indoors only. Each is dear to me.

Long ago I made the promise to my kitties that they would travel in a carrier, strapped in with a seat belt even on short rides to the vet.

Your sad experience can be a lesson for other pet owners.

    Namaste,
    Tina

Oh, dear! I thought something must have happened because we haven’t seen you in ever so long in Cricket’s classes. I lost my cat many years ago (he went out one night and never came back) and I searched for him and mourned for two years! My grief was increased by my guilt–because that night was stormy and I had closed the patio door. He could not get back in like he usually could! That was the night Mt. St. Helen’s blew up so he was probably scared spitless…oh dear, don’t get me crying!

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your cat. I know how devasting it is to loose a faithful companion. Many years ago we lost one of our dogs, she had wandered off during the day… several days later we discovered that one of the kids from the local vocational schools had taken her home and lied to his parents that he found her… she did have her tags on, but he had removed her collar and thrown it away. The parents made him turn her into the local shelter… we contacted the school and found all of this out and actually went to his home and told his parent what he did… we then went to the shelter and found her and took her home… she was only gone two or three days, but was covered in ticks. We were all very upset about this too, ours had a good ending… Now all of our animals are microchipped.

    Dear James,
I have also lost cats in my life. Now I also own a 5 or 6 year old all black female cat that came to my door one rainy night as a stray. I hope your cat and you are reunited, but if that is not to be, all the love you shared won’t go away.

Oh my- my thoughts are with you. I am hoping she finds her way to someone who will try to find you! And it would be wonderful if that’s how she gets back to you.
Have faith- I do. I will be waiting for that post soon.

    Hi James,
I’m very sorry to read about the loss of your cat. I know how heartbreaking it can be–I had two dogs disappear during a break-in at my home several years ago. I was able to find and bring them home with the help of a lot of good-hearted people and a lot of hard work.
A few suggestions I learned through my ordeal (in case you haven’t heard these):
    1. The key to finding one of my dogs was looking for her at night. I had spent most of the time looking during the day, figuring she would be bedded down at night. But I came across info that said scared animals usually hide during the day and wander at night.
    2. Have you contacted and put up posters in all the area vets and emergency animal hospitals in case she was injured and taken there?
    3. Putting up ads on craigslist and petfinder.com may be helpful.
    4. Doing outside-the-box things such as writing a letter to the editor (in my case a family member did this and it led to a tip where one dog was last seen and I found her in that area the following day) or contacting local columnists (since it is such an unusual story) may work. I had put up posters and walked in that area where I found my dog, but the letter to the editor reached the right person with the right information.
    5. Checking all the local shelters and rescue groups in person. The humane society in my area told me of a lost dog being found there by its owner after being missing for two years.
    6. I don’t know the ethnic or cultural makeup of the area where you lost Spot, but I found my dog in a Mexican area of town, and I wondered if I would have found her sooner if I had some Spanish on my posters in order to catch the eyes of Spanish speakers.
I hope your cat is in a place where she is being well-cared for, and it is just a matter of getting the information to those people that she has a great home where she is deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Spot.

    Hi James:
I’m a member of the yahoo FLCW group and saw signature on today’s post. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved cat. I know if my cat went missing I’d be heartsick as well. I pray that someone finds her and the two of you are reunited.

Also, I’m sorry to hear about your stroke and accident. I hope you’re recovering from both.
