BORN AGAIN AMERICAN
By Keith Carradine

Just a workin’ man without a job
It got shipped off to China via Washington, D.C.
And I know I’m nothin’ special, there are plenty more like me
Just the same
I thought I knew the rules of the game
I stood up for this country that I love
I came back from the desert to a wife and kids to feed
I’m not sayin’ Uncle Sam should give me what I need
My offer stands
I’ll pull my weight you give me half a chance

I went up to a congressman and said to him “you know
Our government is letting people down”
He said he’d need a lot of help to buck the status-quo
I said there was a bunch of us around

I’m a Born Again American, conceived in Liberty
My Bible and the Bill of Rights, my creed’s equality
I’m a Born Again American, my country ‘tis of me
And everyone who shares the dream from sea to shining sea

My brother’s welding chassis at the plant
He’s earning what our granddad did in 1948
While CEOs count bonuses behind the castle gates
How can they see
When all they care about’s the do re mi

It’s getting where there’s nowhere left to turn
Not since the crash of twenty-nine have things been so unfair
So many of our citizens are living in despair
The time has come
To reaffirm that hope’s not just for some

The promise of America’s surrendering to greed
The rule is just look out for number one
But brace yourself ‘cause some of us have sown a different seed
A harvest of the spirit has begun

I’m a Born Again American conceived in liberty
My Bible and The Bill Of Rights
My creed’s equality
A Born Again American, my country ‘tis of me
And everyone who shares the dream from sea to shining sea

It’s clear my country’s soul is on the line
She’s hungering for something that she lost along the way
The principle the framers called upon us to obey
That in this land
The people’s will must have the upper hand

I felt the calling once before and took a sacred vow
And faithful to that vow I have remained
I hear the calling once again, my country needs me now
And to her cause I have been re-ordained

I’m a Born Again American conceived in liberty
My Bible and the Bill Of Rights, all people living free
A Born Again American, my country ‘tis of me
And everyone who shares the dream
From sea to shining sea
And everyone who shares the dream
From sea to shining sea
A M E R I C A

Sometimes I wonder if home builders have ever arranged furniture.

It seems they try to save a dollar or two by putting electrical outlets smack dab in the middle of a wall right where you will put the sofa, bookcase or bed.

Not only that, they are still installing duplex outlets.

Look at your house. How many duplex outlets do you have with more than two plugs plugged in through a cascade of outlet expanders and extension cords?

And I’ve yet to see a modern kitchen built with enough outlets!

Somehow, even as Reddy Kilowatt (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reddy_Kilowatt and http://www.toonopedia.com/reddy_k.htm) was promoting electricity in homes, no one bothered to mandate the use of more outlets.

Even today, I’ve yet to see any builder put in enough electrical outlets.

(PS: the number mandated by the building code is not enough.)

A while back while talking to The Phone Company (ATT) about a problem, I agreed to let them talk to me about other services I could buy.

One of those seemed good: unlimited long distance for a fixed rate each month.

The rate is $20.00 and even using my great cheap long distance service (http://www.OneSuite.com, which I still recommend), it was a good deal given the volume of my calls). So I said yes.

Then last month I got an email. I emailed back to ask if I could call. The reply said yes and sent the number. So the bill comes with almost $200.00 in long distance charges. (For several calls like that.)

So why is the bill hundreds of dollars if I am getting unlimited calls? Because the unlimited calls are US Only and these calls were to CANADA at a rate of almost $1.00 per minute.

I Hate The Phone Company.

If you happen to watch network TV, you are likely to be subjected to the audiovisual creation Comcast is attempting to use for advertisements.

Video #1

Click here to view the embedded video.
(Depending on your browser security settings, may need to click twice to start the video. If you are receiving this via email, or want to open the YouTube page with the video, just click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGflGJ8nuW8)

For me, these ads are incredibly wasteful and wrong.

I believe they are wasteful because I believe that the overwhelming majority of people don’t choose Comcast because they are best, but because they have almost no choice.

I believe they are wrong because they are attempting to confuse the benefits of roads with the benefits of destinations.

One of the wonderful distinctions of the internet is that people recognize that getting your internet service is the road; it isn’t where the stuff is … it is just how you get your stuff.

Alas, the cable companies don’t want to be “how you get your stuff”. They also want to be the provider of the stuff itself.

Sorry. I don’t want Comcast to be affiliated with the destinations on the internet in any way shape or form. I just want them to give me a functional road to get there.

Things will be a lot better when this finally ends.

Dear James,

My name is Ashley Toal, and I work in Patient Advocacy at MediciGlobal. We’re working on a multiple sclerosis clinical research study assessing the safety and effectiveness of an oral investigational study medication, teriflunomide. We’d love your help in informing the MS community about this study. Since your blog is so influential in the MS community, would it be possible to post the below study information (in blue) on your blog?

Information about this study is also listed on a number of MS advocacy group websites including the National MS Society, MS Foundation and the Consortium of MS Centers. I hope that you can also help us inform you MS blogging community about the study. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions.

Best,

Ashley

A Clinical Research Study Evaluating An Investigational Medication for Relapsing Forms of Multiple Sclerosis

Medical researchers are enrolling people in a worldwide clinical research study for people with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (RMS). This study will assess the safety and effectiveness of an investigational study medication versus placebo (an inactive substance which contains no active medication) in people ages 18-55 years old with RMS.

The investigational medication used in this study is called teriflunomide (ter-i-flün-ō-mïde). It is derived from leflunomide (le-flü-nō-mïde), also known as Arava®. Arava® is already approved in many countries for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, another autoimmune disease.

The first step in determining eligibility for this study is to take the pre-screening questionnaire either online or on the phone. You will be asked a series of questions related to your health and be given additional information about study site locations. Visit www.tower3.msstudies.com or call 1-866-565-0245 today to learn more about the study and see if you may qualify.

NB: Although I do not have MS, MS was a factor in my father’s death and my grandmother’s death. For that reason I have a section on my website for MS. You can see it here: http://JSH.us/ms.
